Mr. Albert E. McDaniel
Albert was a graduate of Atkins High School and Winston-Salem State University and attended University of Akron School of Law. A member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, he was always a gentleman, a scholar, and a true friend. For more than 20 years, he served children and families in the Illinois Department of Children and Youth Services (DCYS).
Preceding him to glory were his parents, Dr. Abraham H. and Mrs. Ivye Nelle (Gaither) McDaniel; and beloved soulmate, Jacqueline Shields. Celebrating his homegoing are sister, Dr. Cecilia McDaniel of the city; brother, Min. Russell (Min. Margie) McDaniel of Durham; sister, Branelsia Kaye (Min. Silas) Hart of Jefferson, NC; niece, Dr. Erica Shelton of El Paso, TX; and nephews, O. Keith McDaniel of Durham; Rev. Dr. M. Keith (Latron) McDaniel, Sr., of Spartanburg, SC; and Timothy J. (Itia) Hart of Mebane; maternal aunt, Lillian (Israel, Sr.) Gaither of New Castle, PA; childhood friends, Walter Adams, Ernest Goodman, James Lomax, and Dr. Fred Tanner of the city; and a host of relatives and friends. His physical presence will be missed by Pastor Barrett and members of The Life Center C.O.G.I.C; however, his loving spirit will remain with them forever. So, too, will his love remain with Union Baptist.
Services will be conducted at Union Baptist Church, 1200 N. Trade ST, on Monday, October 31, with Reverend Dr. Sir Walter Lee Mack, Jr., officiating. He will be eulogized by his nephew, Reverend. Dr. M. Keith McDaniel. Family Visitation Hour will begin at 11 a.m., Homegoing Services begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center or to research foundations the focus on stroke and Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, especially in communities of color.

Mrs. Clara W. Clavon
She was born to the late Benjamin Windham, Sr. and Mattie Wells Windham on May 19, 1916 in Lynchburg, South Carolina.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Nathaniel Clavon and to this union, four daughters were born.
Mommio was a stay at home mom until her daughters were of school age and later became an employee of Western Electric (AT&T) for many years.
She was an active member of Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church for more than sixty years. Mrs. Clara Clavon was the most recent Mother of the Church. Her faithful tenure included services on the Gospel Choir, Missionary Society, the Deaconess, Bible Study and Sunday Church School.
This strong warrior leaves to carry on her legacy Daisy Clavon Roane (Cleveland, Ohio), Shirley Clavon Kindle (Pfafftown, North Carolina), Mary Clavon Nelson (James) and Jeraline Clavon Gunnings (Winston-Salem, North Carolina), one son-in-law and one sister-law. Mommio cherished her eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren.
Family visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church . 630 N. Patterson Ave. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
