Mr. Orlando Peters

ORLANDO EDWARD “Bull” PETERS, 73, the third child born to the late Thornton G. and Helen G. Peters on May 9, 1937, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center.  He was a native of Winston-Salem, NC. Orlando attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools, graduating in the class of 1955.  He attended North Central University.  He was a former employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.  Orlando was a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Phelon D. Peters. Orlando is survived by his devoted sister, Jacquelyn P. Tolbert (Joe Lewis); his son, Antonio Dubose of the city; his daughter, Petina Dubose, Durham, NC; sister, Edith P. Mehlinger, Altadena, CA ;  granddaughters: JaQue A. Dubose, Winston-Salem & Secoria Dubose, Atlanta, GA; great granddaughter, Jermiah Dubose, Atlanta, GA; nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Thanks to the staff at CRT Golden Lamb Rest Home.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1:00PM, with Dr. Serenus Churn, Sr. officiating.  The family visitation will be from 12:30pm - 1:00pm. Interment - Evergreen Cemetery.

Ms. Janice L. Purcell

On Sunday morning, February 20, 2011, Janice L. Purcell, a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend passed into eternal rest following a period of illness in Philadelphia, Pa.Those who knew her were touched by her thoughtful, caring and giving nature. We thank God for her presence in our lives.
 
She was born in Rockingham County, NC to Lucy Stokes Lindsey and the late George Lindsey. She was baptized at Chapel Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Ruffin, NC at an early age. She attended the local public schools of Ruffin, NC and graduated from Ruffin High School. Janice served in the US Army. She was employed by the US Post Office until her health failed.
 
Surviving relatives left to cherish her memory include: one daughter. Tammy Lee (Steve) Cannon; two grandchildren: Tyree Cannon and Justin Cannon, all of Eden, NC; mother, Lucy Lindsey; three sisters: Georgia L. Mills, Margie L. Graves and Jacqueline Hopson, all of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Danny Lindsey of Alabama; aunts: Belle S. Worthy of High Point, NC, Bernice S. Winchester, Geneva Stokes of Reidsville, NC; one uncle, Avie G. (Mary) Stokes of Reidsville; a host of other relatives and many friends.
 
A service honoring her memory was held in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, February 27, 2011.
 

Mrs. Mary Hamilton

On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, Mrs. Mary C. Hamilton departed this life. Mary was the beloved wife of James Hamilton, mother of Eric, Guy, Tracy, Michael and Montrena Branch, step mother of Candace Stowe, Darryl and Lasharn Hamilton, grandmother of Bernard Johnson and Keon Stridiron, and daughter of Ms. Catherine Kearney. Mary is also survived by a host of other family and friends.

Viewing will be held at GolerMemorial AME Zion Church, 630 N. Patterson Avenue on Thursday, February 17 from 12:30 PM, until time of service at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Seth O. Lartey, Sr. Pastor officiating. Interment will be in EvergreenCemetery.

Mrs. Martesia Tate

Martesia Wilnetta Holmes Tate was born on March 29, 1954 in Winston-Salem, NC and passed February 4, 2011 unexpectedly in her home.  Martesia was a 1972 graduate of North Forsyth High School. She and her husband, Walter Tate, Jr. resided in Winston-Salem, where she was a homemaker, devoted wife, and a Christian of the Baptist denomination. She was preceded in death by her parents Willie J. Holmes, Sr. and Mamie Jeanette Purdie Holmes, and just recently her Uncle, Paul Pickens in January. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Walter, two brothers Alan Holmes (Mary) and Willie Holmes, Jr. (Bennie), one stepson, Curtis, two brothers-in-law, Johnny Mackie (Delois) of Mount Airy, and Lorenzo Tate (Beverly) of Winston-Salem,  one sister-in-law, Eva Mae Tate, two uncles, Dr. Allen Holmes (Martha), and Robert Earl McCullough, one aunt, Deborah Pickens, two great aunts, Thomasina Holmes and Mary Lee Holmes, several nieces; Tika Douthit, Sheena Martin, LaShawndra Martin, Brittany Holmes, Ashley Holmes, a nephew, Isaiah Holmes, and a special friend, Veronica Summers. Martesia also leaves a host of cousins, grandnieces, and friends.  

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, beginning at 12 noon at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home, located at 727 North Patterson Avenue, W-S, NC 27101. The family is receiving friends and guests at the home of Alan and Mary Holmes, 5241 Silas Creek Parkway, W-S, NC 27106 following the memorial.
