Willie
Thompson Iii
Nov 21, 1949 — Aug 3, 2025
Willie Thompson, III affectionately called "Bug" was the first born son of the late Frances Lewis Thompson and the late Willie Thompson, Jr. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 21, 1949.
Willie attended the local public schools. Over his life time, he became a self-educated and skilled craftsman. He could create, repair and maintain products using a number of tools and methods.
He knew that life was not a battle to win, but a journey to share with those he loved. He consistently demonstrated his love and care for his four sisters. He was a reliable painter, landscaper, construction worker and handyman for each of them.
"Bug" was a gentle man, soft spoken and kind. The siblings recently enjoyed quiet time of reflection together on Sunday, July 27, 2025 when they shared birthday cake and ice cream in celebration of T's birthday. That day proved to be the last time just the five of them would be together.
Willie Thompson, III passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, August 3, 2025. In addition to his parents, he was precede in death by his brother, Narvell Thompson; a niece, Penny Lee Small; and two nephews, Kerry Thompson and Delander Thompson.
Those family members who survive and who will forever cherish loving memories of "Bug" include his two children, LaVetta Funches (Jerald Tobin, Sr.) and Willie E. Hunter; five grandchildren, Jerald Tobin, Jr., Jada Tobin, Willie Hunter, Jr., Demonte Hunter and Willamina Hunter; four sisters, Gloria T. Cain, Margretta T. Rice, Mae Thompson and Carrie Thompson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephew, and several cousin and extended family members and friends.
