Obituary

Velda "Kay" Gidderon, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Kay peacefully transitioned from this world, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, strength, and warmth.

Born in Winston-Salem, NC, Kay was the cherished daughter of the late Mary Williams and a loving sister to the late Siddona and Cherish. She is survived by her brother, Penn "Chubby" Johnakin. Kay was a devoted mother to Zuleika and Carl, a nurturing grandmother to Zayauna and Zarayah, and a treasured aunt to her nieces and nephews, including Kisha, Velda, Tanya, Latoya, and her nephews Penn "PJ," Brydon, and Kinston. She was also a beloved niece to Aunt Margerie.

Kay dedicated over 30 years of her life working for various contract companies in the R.J. Reynolds Building, where she made lasting friendships and contributed greatly to her community. Outside of her professional life, she had a passion for cooking, sewing, crocheting, and her love for frogs, which brought her joy and inspired her creativity.

A pillar of strength and compassion, Kay was deeply loved by her devoted friends Jackie, Portia, Avis, and Alice. Her vibrant personality and infectious laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Kay's memory by cherishing your loved ones and spreading kindness to others, just as she did throughout her life.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends thirty-minutes prior to service. There will be no public viewing.
