Obituary

Pastor Ophelia Beatrice Lurry was born on September 18, 1925, in Danville, Virginia. She was the eldest of 5 children to the late Albert and Pastor Sally Strader. At the early age of 12, Ophelia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and could often be found playing the piano and singing praises unto the Lord. She also enjoyed attending Sunday school and bible study. Ophelia loved her family, and would often spend her time tending to and caring for her younger siblings.

As Ophelia grew into a young lady, she met the love her life, Isaiah Lurry. The two were wed in holy matrimony on September 19, 1945. In 1952, the family moved from Danville, VA to Washington, DC. From Ophelia and Isaiah's union, 5 children were born: twin boys, who transitioned at two days old, Eloise "Pinky" Lee, Isaiah "Bubble" Lurry Jr., and Theresa Ann Lurry.

Loving God with all her heart, Ophelia answered her calling and became the minister of music for the Holy Temple Church of God, pastored by her mother. Ophelia here established the Mass Choir, Senior Choir, and Youth Choir for her church. She loved singing, and always had a song in her heart to encourage others.Ophelia would later minister at the Macedonia Holy Church, and in 1995, she was called to serve as pastor. Pastor Ophelia Lurry and Deacon Isaiah Lurry taught and performed missionary work for years. They encouraged many as they taught God's Word. Ophelia's love for others and devotion to Christ will leave a lasting impression upon all she encountered.
