Mildred Ellis Knox was born to the late Rev. Golden C. and Sadie M. Ellis on August 9, 1924 in Winston-Salem, NC. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on August 2, 2022, at the age of 97, while residing at Forest Heights Senior Living Community.

Mildred graduated from Atkins High School in 1942, then went on to attend Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC, graduating with honors in 1948. Mildred also did further studies at NC A&T State University.

She was employed by Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital for nearly 10 years before accepting the position as secretary to the Vice Chancellor at Winston-Salem State University. She retired from that position in 1982.

Mildred married the late William Gaither Knox on June 13, 1946. Together they raised and nurtured three children: Constance "Connie". Edythe "Edie" and William Gregory "Greg".

Mildred was a member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church for over 65 years. She was also a member of the Livingstone College National Alumni Association and Alph Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Loving memories shall be cherished by her daughter, Edie K. (Jesse) Dove, Summerville, SC; son, William Gregoy (Brenda) Knox, Kernersville, NC; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Dorothy E. Wynecoff; four sisters-in-law; three nieces and a nephew; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Park. *Masks are required*
