Michael Landon Smith passed away unexpectedly at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Ruth Smith; and two brothers, Arthur and Randolph Smith.

He was born to Arthur Smith and Annie Laura Spicer Smith in Wilmington, NC on September 27, 1963. He attended the public schools of New Hanover County. After school, Michael joined Job Corps. Following his Job Corps training, he relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and went to work for the City of Winston-Salem (Sanitation Division). He was also employed in a part-time position with Gaffney Construction Company for nearly ten years.

Michael was a member Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Washington Smith; children, Latasha Copeland, Annette Marie Greer, Michael Landon Smith, Jr., Eric Ray Smith, Ashely Martin and James Martin; ten grandchildren; his siblings, Annie (Randal) Brown, Cynthia Irving and Gregory (Debra) Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many friends.

A funeral service will take place at 1pm, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
