Our beloved Mattie Lean Leake transitioned to her eternal rest on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. She was born in Wadesboro, Anson County North Carolina on July 6, 1947. Mattie was the daughter of the late Helen Brigham.

Educated at the School for the Deaf and Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina, she graduated with the class of 1967. At the school is where she met her life long partner and husband, Thurmond.

Mattie was fun loving. She enjoyed laughter, music and being around her family and friends. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a friend to all who knew her and to know her was to love her. Mattie enjoyed being in her garden and was a phenomenal cook. Culinary arts were her profession.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Thurmond Thompson; sister, Marlene Watkins; three brothers; Duncan Leake, Sandy Brigham, and David Brigham.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Robert Leake and Addison Leake; granddaughter, Latoya Sides; great grand daughter, Laila Sides; brothers, Eddie Brigham, Tracy Brigham, Gary Brigham; a very devoted brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Diane Brigham of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and a very devoted cousin-in-law, Arnold Thompson.

Public viewing will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Tuesday, October 15, 2024 a Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral service 3:00 PM, Wednesday, October 16, 2024 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons. The family will greet friends thirty-minutes prior to service.
