Matthew Allen
Burney
Feb 8, 1989 — Jul 27, 2025
Matthew Allen Burney age 36, son of Elder Ernie and Wanda Burney was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on the morning of February 8, 1989. Matthew's first name means "Beloved of the Lord" with his middle name from his late paternal great grandfather, Jethro Allen Burney, a man who loved the Lord, His God, even as his grandson and great-grandsons after him. We then figure those handy cooking skills passed from his paternal "Grandma Eva" and his curly locks, in part, from his "Grandma Pearline".
Despite his relatively short time on this earth, Matthew's impact is not to be diminished. He lived his life as a thoughtful and often thought-provoking young man, who was quite the sports buff. Following his graduation from North Forsyth High School and the "One and Only" college for him: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he was fortunate to land a job in the Human Resources field as an Human Resources Analyst for Wilco-Hess Oil Company and later with United Parcel Services.
Following a medical crisis in 2017, Matt's attention turned more to developing his skills in cooking and baked goods. At the encouragement of his Pastor, he began an LLC called B's Bakery! You could taste all the detailed labor of love he put into his products and our mouths still water at the thought of his cheesecake minis from scratch cinnamon rolls and cookies; the specialty turkey burgers, salmon cakes, and many other aromas from the LWF Church's kitchen.
Still, more importantly than where he went to school, his distinct culinary feats, his role as drummer, or any of the other ministry tasks he fulfilled, is the fact that Matthew knew and loved the Lord and the Lord knew and loved Matthew.
Despite any health conditions, he continued to "show up" for people! He functioned well, achieved goals, and lived at a much higher level than medical professionals thought possible without complaining and in faith. It is in this truth that we find the most comfort, joy and peace.
In addition to his parents and all of his Beloved Living Word Fellowship Church Family, Matthew leaves to cherish many memories: his "favorite" younger brother, Seth Emanuel of whom he drew pictures for years before Seth's arrival; his maternal grandfather, Clinton Graham (Eunice); his "Kinda Nana", Gladys Bustamante; his "cousisiter" and husband, Samantha and Antonio and their children who lovingly called him, "Uncle Matt"; his paternal great-great aunts; Sylena, Lou Delphia and Cora Mae, along with "Ms. Dot"; maternal great-great aunt, Sarah Johnson; his paternal great-aunt, Betty Galloway; his maternal great uncles and aunts: General Graham, Bertha Tyson, Alice Johnson, James Johnson, Lucille and Andrew Townsend, Rosa (Butch) and Thomas and Denise Johnson; his maternal aunts and uncles: Brenda (Kim), Donald (Najla), Troy (Thomasina), James (Judy), Addie (John), Lamonte, Nikki (Lewis), Tina (David), Jessie (Chaz), Brian and LaSheena (Noron); "Aunties" and "Uncles" by Love, Sophia, Cynora, Janet, Helen, Coco (Tony), Lizette (Kenny), Beverley and Nettie (Sidney); special cousins, Sam and Tarsha, Sam, Jr. and Tiana, Pastors John and Victoria Galloway, and Michael Galloway, Aquan Douglas, Brenda and Jared Smith; Godmother, First Lady Lucille; God-sister and brother, Pastor Nicole Baker (Anthony) and Ron Neil II (Granada); Wesley and Parris Smith; and his God-given Love Family: The Norwood family (Dennise, Michele, Morgan, Mason and Madison); and a host of other dear cousins, close relatives, many friends and acquaintances.
