Marilyn Lyons
Segers
Oct 2, 1936 — Dec 16, 2024
Marilyn "Geneva" Segers, born in Clemmons, North Carolina on October 2, 1936, was the daughter of John Richmond Lyons and Emma Hairston Lyons.
She was educated in Forsyth County Schools. She later began a career with Wachovia Bank & Trust and held positions including one in the Vault Department and retired after more than 30 years of service.
Geneva joined Hickory Grove AME Zion Church in her youth and later became a member of Goler Memorial AME Zion Church. She was a member of several ministries and offered her service to the Missionaries, Deaconess, and Trustee Boards. Not often found with idle hands, she was usually doing things that pleased her and brought joy to others: including cooking, cleaning, and working on various projects.
Having completed all of her earthly assignments, on December 16, 2024, she joined other family members who preceded her in death, including her parents, John and Emma Lyons; son, James D. Segers; beloved aunt, Georgia Sparks; and foster sister, Emily Sparks.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn S. Kelly; grandchildren, Kahlua Kelly, Erica Segers, Gabrielle Johnson, Anderson Bynum and Joshua Clayton Sr.; devoted cousins, Raeford Sparks, Deborah Chandler, Fred Sparks and Jaques Mitchell; and a devoted friend, Deborah Powell.
There will be no public viewing for Ms. Segers. A Memorial service will be held Monday, December 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.
