To be absent from the body is to be present before the Lord .... Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Shouse Scales, our beautiful flower was taken from the Bethania Community August OS, 2016. She was born June 2, 1931 to the late Johnnie Shouse and Minnie Bitting Shouse and was the sixth of their nine children. She was the devoted wife of the late Raleigh Nelson Scales Sr.

She leaves to cherish her legacy of memories seven loving and devoted children; five daughters: Jackie Hickman, Carolyn (Walter) Farabee, Sharon (De Quincy)Eaton, Darlene Scales and Barbara Scales; two sons: Raleigh (Jeannie) and Henry Scales all of Winston-Salem, NC; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; three sisters: Anna (Joseph) Ervin, Hannah Eldridge and Mollie McClain of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters-in-law: Doris Shouse of Bethania, NC, Ella Fulp and Faye Scales and brother-in-law, Billy Hairston of Walkertown, NC as well as a host of many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family acknowledges sincere appreciation for the supportive additional caregivers: Dr. Betsy English, TaShicka Hickman, Arlene Morris, A Touch of Care and Hospice Palliative Care.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Center Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Tobaccoville, NC. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Center Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in memory and honor of Mrs. Margaret E. Scales.
