Obituary

Margaret Glendora Ray Sanders was born on June 16, 1941, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, to the late James Roy Ray and Josie Lomack Ray. On September 2, 2025, the Lord sent one of his angels to take Margaret Sanders home.

Margaret accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a devoted member of Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was also a proud member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Gospel Choir, where she joyfully shared her gift of singing.

Educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, Margaret attended Atkins High School. She had a lifelong love for singing and treasured time spent with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and was known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. Margaret resided in Washington, D.C., for a number of years before returning to Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Otis Sanders and twelve siblings.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Alton Ray ("Peewee") of Washington, D.C. and John Steadman, Jr. ("June Bug") of Virginia; one daughter, Hope Steadman of Florida. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Lewis Ray, Sr. (Rosa); of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her devoted caregivers: Barbara Green (Sister-in-Love), Sharal Duncan, Rosa Ray, and Rhonda Dioum.

A special thank you to Danna and the East Trellis Hospice Team for all their support.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, September 9, 2025 in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
