Obituary

Maretta Miley-Benton fulfilled all of life's roles to the fullest and was called Home on November 26, 2023, passing away peacefully at Bradford Village West. "RettaRetta", as she was known throughout her life, was born to Edward and Alverna Miley (deceased) in Hampton County, South Carolina on July 11, 1952, migrating shortly

thereafter to New Jersey with her parents and two siblings.

Maretta lived most of her life in Brooklyn, NY, and attended Mid-wood High School. She had a long career at Verizon Communications as a Facilities Specialist retiring after 30 years of service. Maretta was an influential member of Communications Workers Local 1101 and 1109. As a Facilities Assistant and Trainer for Union members, her passion and expertise prepared hundreds of employees to qualify for Facilities Specialist promotions.

We were fortunate to have had "Retta" in our lives for such a long time. We were touched by her laughter, jovial presence, and giving nature. She was our "social butterfly" as "Retta" enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling, and caring for her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alverna Miley, her loving husband Ricardo D. Benton, and her beloved grandson, Travis Tyquan Benton.

Maretta leaves to cherish her memory, her son Travis Benton, his loving partner and mother of her grandchildren, Sabrina McNeil, grandchildren Tavia Benton and Kris Benton, five sisters Verna Allen, Christine White, Gloria Chapman, Sandra Miley, Jessie Miley, one brother Alfred Miley and sister-in-law Denise Miley as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Public viewing will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2023 at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.
