Mrs. Louyse Belva Pickel Tuffin was born in Charleston, West Virginia on November 6, 1927 to the late Samuel D. and Lydia Byrd Plunkett Pickel. She attended the public schools and graduated from Garnett High School. She was a graduate of West Virginia State College with a Bachelor Degree in Education. She was an English Literature teacher in the Detroit, Michigan public schools.

Louyse was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Gerald David Tuffin, Jr. Following her husband's death she moved to Winston-Salem. There she united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Davis Elaine Tuffin and brother, Samuel Pickel.

Left to cherish their memories are her children: Gerald David Tuffin, III, Diana Carlita Tuffin and Trent Sheldon Tuffin; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Rosa Lena Pickel; a number of extended family members and friends.

A service in her memory was held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The family greeted friend 30 minutes prior to the service.
