Lola Stimpson
Black
Aug 27, 1929 — Sep 1, 2025
On Monday, September 1, 2025, God sent his angels to bring our beloved Lola Black, affectionally known as "Nana Lola" and "Mother Black" home. She was born on August 27, 1929, in East Bend, NC, to the late Samuel Stimpson, Sr. and Laura Jarrett Stimpson.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: four brothers, Charlie, Jim, Herman, and Sam, Jr., and three sisters, Laura Beatrice, Josephine, and Louise.
She leaves one sister, Mary Rodman of Asheboro, NC, to cherish and celebrate her memories.
In 1946, God blessed Lola with a devoted son, Jerry, (Delores Paulette) of Durham, NC. The joy in her life continued when she became the proud grandmother of Morris Stimpson (Michelle) of Marietta, GA and Jennifer Stimpson-Ivey (Shareef) of Chapel Hill, NC. Her love and passion and devotion to family grew more as she celebrated the arrival of five great-grandchildren, (Andrew, Jayden, Mia, Braylon, and Grayson) who lovingly know her as "Nana Lola". Her Christian values and life lessons were imparted to her family and will continue to strengthen them and all who knew Lola and often sought her wisdom and guidance.
Lola attended Yadkin County High School in Boonville, NC. She left the family home in East Bend and moved to Winston-Salem where she provided services to the family of Dr. Eben and Betty Alexander for sixty-two years. During this time, she also worked at the Thomasville Furniture Company for twenty-five years, until she retired. Her service and support to the Alexander family nurtured a relationship that became her extended family that strengthened to one that has never waned.
Lola devoted her life to Christ at young age, and she was a life-time member of Benbow Chapel AME Zion church in East Bend. She was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where she was very active in several areas. She sang in the Senior Choir, attended Sunday School and Bible Classes, and was Honored as a "Mother of the Church". She was well known as one of the best cooks and bakers in the county, and often used her talents as a mission to others who loved how she could lift one up through the sweet smells of her cooking.
Public viewing will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Friday, September 5, 2025 at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral service 11:30 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4129 Northampton Drive, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105. The family will receive friends thirty-minutes prior to service. Interment in Benbow Chapel AME Zion Church, East Bend, North Carolina.
