Mr. Lewis Bernard Russell, Jr. was born on June 6, 1952 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was the oldest son of the late Lewis Bernard Russell, Sr. and Thelma Brown Russell. On March 24, 2024, he passed away.

Bernard, as he was known, attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools including Atkins High School and graduated from East Forsyth High School. His varied employment included positions with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, B&B Car Wash, and Russell's Funeral Home.

He was a member of Love Fellowship Outreach Church in the city, where Apostle Gonnie Joe Baldwin is the pastor. Additionally in the community, he was a member of the James H. Young Masonic Lodge #670. Bernard enjoyed sports, but especially football and basketball.

Those who preceded him in death include: his father, Lewis Bernard Russell, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Fred and Clara Brown; paternal grandparents, Reese Russell and Octavia Williams; six aunts and four uncles.

He is survived by his sons: Lewis (Drena) Russell and Eric Russell (Hannah Garrison); his mother, Thelma B. Russell; grandson, Bernard Russell; great grandson, Benjamin "BJ" Russell; four brothers: Tyrone (Penny) Russell, Phillip (Wanda) Russell, Tremus (Gwendolyn) Russell, Bernard (Holi) Russell; three aunts: Willie Mae Stowe, Maxine Brown; five uncles: Benjamin (Joyce) Brown, Clevester Brown, Michael Brown, Ricky (Janice) Brown and Robert (Sally) Bethea; his former wife and mother of his children, Ruth Russell; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Public viewing will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Friday, March 29, 2024 at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral service 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2024 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to service.
