Obituary

On April 24, 1950, God blessed us with Mr. Larry Eugene "Shep" Phillips, born to the late James Henry Walter and Lady Byrd Phillips. On the morning of April 4, 2021, Jesus gently and peacefully extended Larry, 70, an invitation and he exchanged life for eternity. He was educated in the public schools of Yadkin County and graduated from Forbush High School. He retired from Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation after more than 30 years of excellent service.

Larry was well-loved in the community and never met a stranger. His laughter was contagious and his quick wit and sense of humor brightened many days as he made his early morning rounds to Liberty's for breakfast and Food Lion to do more talking than shopping. His family and friends knew him for his absolute honesty and endless wisdom for just about every life situation. He was a simple man with a kind heart, and he made the best pickles you ever tasted. To say he will be missed is an understatement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Eugene Phillips II; four brothers, Walter "Pinky" Phillips, Robert "Buddy" Phillips, Kyrm "Jed" Phillips, John Thomas "Johnny" Phillips; and two sisters, Cora Lee "Granny" Phillips Furches, Lillie Mae "Chicken" Phillips Lambeth.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Tamara Phillips; two daughters: Resha (Aziz) Peregrino-Brimah of East Bend, NC and Tamara (Corey) Phillips of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren: Rian, Jamin, Caschius, Tionna, Corey and Carter; great-granddaughter: Kay'loni; special nephew-sons: Duane "Garb" Buntyn of Rural Hall, NC, William "Chilly" (Gabriella) Fred of Winston-Salem, NC, Erskine "Chris" Fred of Chicago, IL;four brothers: Clarence "Ed" (Alice) Phillips of Pfafftown, NC, James "Jimbo" (Mandy) Phillips of Winston-Salem, NC, Paul "Beagle" (Shirley) Phillips of East Bend, NC, William "Will" Phillips of East Bend, NC; three sisters: Eliza "Suzie" (Aldine) Myers, Alice "Nugee" Porter and Gale "Daisy" (Mike) Phillips of East Bend, NC; five sisters-in-law: Shirley Phillips of Pfafftown, NC, Cody Phillips of Winston-Salem, NC, Martha "Tootsie" Phillips of East Bend, NC, Fredrika "Rita" (Hassel) Parker and Victoria "Nancy" Glenn of Winston-Salem, NC; four brothers-in-law: William Botts of Reno, NV, James "Jimmy" (Angela) Botts of Clinton, MD, Garris (Michelle) Botts of Antelope, CA, James Oliver "Jay-O" Wharton of Randolph, MA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
