Obituary

Kelly Oliver Perry Grier was born to Robert Grier and the late Marjorie Carter Grier in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on February 20, 1950.

He attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. He later joined the Job Corps where he ultimately earned his High School Equivalency Diploma.

Kelly's early Christian Education began at United Progressive Community Church of Winston-Salem and he later identified as a member of the Baptist faith. He was an active participant in the Senior Day Program at Mount Baptist Church for about two years.

Kelly Grier entered the armed forces and gave honorable service for his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a former member of James H. Young Memorial Lodge #670.

He enjoyed Thrifting. He so loved that hobby that he secured and maintained a stand at The Market Place Mall where he could sell odds and ends himself; he seemed to find pleasure in dabbling in knick-knacks and selling them.

His employment history included a job with Duke Energy Company and he later retired from the City of Winston-Salem.

Kelly Oliver Perry Grier passed away at his home in Winston-Salem on Thursday, August 7, 2025, following a period of illness. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Chervonne Robinson.
