Mrs. Kara Gillespie Waiters passed away at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, September 2, 2016, following a period of illness. She was born to the late Walker and Carrie Gaither Gillespie in Iredell County, NC on February 6, 1942.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Waiters; a sister, Mary Frances Goldsmith and a brother, James R. Gillespie.

Mrs. Gillespie retired from Sears and Roebuck Company in Winston-Salem, NC prior to relocating to Virginia Beach, VA.

Survivors include her son, Walter L. Gillespie; grandsons, Cedric, Tyson, Devan and Mason; stepdaughter, Raycole Waiters-Watlington; sisters, Delores Boyce, Brenda Caldwell, Kimberly G. Kimbrough and Michelle Boller; brothers, Jerry Gillespie and Charles Gillespie, Sr.; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Her funeral service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service, at 1:30 pm.
