Ms. Julia Anne Samuels was born in Winston-Salem, NC on July 15, 1947. She attended the local public schools, was a 1965 graduate of Anderson High School and furthered her education by receiving a degree in Computer Science from Rutledge Business College. Professionally she held several positions including employment with The Housing Authority of Winston-Salem and with Forsyth County Government as a tax assessor. She retired as an accountant for the Winston-Salem Urban League.

Formerly a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, she lifted her voice in praise as an active member of the choir. Later at Praise Assembly Church Ministries, she served faithfully as long as her health allowed.

Ms. Samuels was a good-hearted person who was willing to help others but "didn't take no mess." She enjoyed reading, watching her soap operas, playing cards and singing, especially Christian music. Mostly she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her children have fond memories of family game night.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Stella Earline Samuels Brown and Arthur Brown; sister, Livada Brown and brothers: Joseph Brown and Larry Samuels. She leaves to cherish their memories of her, two children: Jonathan Samuels and Tamikia Samuels; three grandchildren: Malik Samuels, Janae Samuels and Jamora Samuels; one great grandchild, Jaleh Samuels; two brothers: Thomas (Georgia) Samuels of Charlotte, NC and Arthur Brown, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service in her memory will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
