Psalm 30:5 " Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning"

On March 31, 1940, John Anderson Givens was born to Grant Givens and Annie Sibley Givens in York County. SC. He began his education by attending the York County Public School. He moved to NC in 1958. After serving with the United States Army, he continued his education earning an Associate Degree in Automotive Mechanics.

In earlier years, his love was working on cars, and he was a great backyard mechanic.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather uncle and friend. To his nieces and nephews, he was "The Gentle Giant". A man of few words, but passionate and understanding. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by all his siblings, Sammy, Willie, Emanuel, Jim, and James Givens.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of sixty-two years Evangelist Ellen King Givens, dedicated daughter CoSaundra "Nita" Owens (Victor); two precious granddaughters: JaShaun Vestal, VicTori Owens, niece/daughter Michele Givens, two brothers-in-law, Rev. Micheal King (Gwen) and Hallard King of Walnut Cove, NC, sisters-in-law, Linda Galloway, Jan King, Sandra King, Ruby King, Susie King, Deborah King all of Walnut Cove, NC; Special friends, Min. Vernell Taylor, Catherine "Cat" King , Tyrin McCollum and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, 2025 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at 12:30 PM prior to the service in the funeral home. Entombment in Gardens of Memory.
