James Franklin Bates: was born to Vivian P. Bates and James Benford, in The Bronx, New York. James attended P.S. 18, Clark Junior High School and Benjamin Franklin High School. While in High School, he realized that school was not particularly for him, so James then enlisted in the United States Army, to serve his country!

James, also known dearly as "Skipper" has experienced many trials and tribulations, just as many of us have, in life. The huge difference is that with his calm, cool and collected personality, Skipper had overcome them all with a big smile on his face and forgiveness in his heart!

His Parents, Vivian P. Bates and James Benford, along with his older sister, Dietra J. Bates, preceded him in death.

James leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Mrs. Linda Bates, his daughter, Janelle; Son, Marquis; his grandchildren, Mercedes, Marquis, Ciera, and Jamie; his Baby Sister, Debra Richardson, Baby Brother, Russell Bates; and Sister-in-law, Michelle (Greg), Yvonne, and Nina; along with a host of Nieces, Great Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, Other Family and Friends, that he loved dearly as they do also!
