Howard
Lipscomb Sr.
Sep 21, 1925 — Jul 25, 2016
Mr. Howard Lipscomb, Sr. was born to the late Matt Lipscomb and the late Lula Lowery Lipscomb in Gaffney, South Carolina, ninety years ago, on September 21, 1925.
He began his early childhood education in the schools of Gaffney. And as a young adult he moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he worked in construction. In due time, he found gainful employment with Frank L. Blum Construction Company. He remained there and retired following more than thirty years of dedicated service to the company.
The young Howard Lipscomb did find something other than gainful employment in North Carolina; he met the love of his life, Mabel Ruth Marsh. They became the proud parents of nine children. And they provided an environment filled with love, laughter and nurture for their children.
Mr. Howard Lipscomb, Sr. peacefully passed away at his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Monday, July 25, 2016, following a period of illness. In addition to his parents and the love of his life, Mabel Ruth Marsh, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Marsh and two sons, Artis Lee Marsh and Otis Lee Marsh.
Those family members who survive and who will forever cherish loving memories of a dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend include four daughters, Florence Marsh Beasley, Peggy Lee Marsh Salley (Joseph, Jr.), Diane (Willie) Hughes and Loretta Marsh; two sons, Clarence Milton (Margo) Marsh and Howard (Darlene) Lipscomb, Jr.; twenty-five grandchildren, including his devoted granddaughter, Sandra J. Marsh; a sister, Lula (Elmer) West; a host of great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, several extended family members and friends.
A service in his memory will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, July 30, 2016 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
