Obituary

Hattie Potter Bailey was born to the late Cleo and Rosa Belle Smith Potter in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on July 31, 1942.

She attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and later earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Forsyth Technical Community College. She attended church along with her family at a very young and began her early Christian Education as a member of Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bailey married the love of her life, the late William M. Bailey, and they became the proud parents of two children, Avonda Renee' and Kenneth.

Mrs. Bailey was a teacher's assistant in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for many years. But due to a pre-existing health condition, she had to move from the classroom and accept a lateral employment position with the school system until declining health prevented her long term employment.

She was a pet lover and a very good cook. A favorite and much requested dish that she prepared, "Banana Surprise," was especially enjoyed by her son-in-law, Bobby Cunningham and his co-workers.

Mrs. Hattie Potter Bailey was called from labor to eternal rest on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center in Kernersville, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleo Potter, Jr. and Roosevelt "Bunkie" Potter; and two nephews.

Those family members who survive and who will forever cherish loving memories of her include her children, Avonda ( Bobby) Cunningham and Kenneth (Debra) Bailey; her grandchildren, Marquis (Alicia) Bailey, Christopher (Antrovette) Bailey, Kendra Bailey, Deonna Bailey and Kyle Bailey; two great grandchildren, Christopher Bailey, Jr. and Angel Bailey; several other extended family members and friends.

A service in her memory was held at 11:30 am on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family greeted friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.
