Obituary

Gregory C. Millner "Greg", 68, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, December 13, 2024, in Matthews, NC, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 18, 1955, in Winston-Salem, NC, Gregory was the beloved son of the late Sallie Ann Miller Millner and Frank Alexander Millner.

A proud veteran, Greg served honorably in the United States Army until his discharge in April, 1980. Following his military service, he pursued a passion for craftsmanship and education. He graduated from North Forsyth Senior High School in 1974 and earned certifications in Automotive Body Repair (1983) and Diesel Truck Maintenance and Repair (1984) from Forsyth Technical Institute. In 1996, Gregory completed the Contractors Business Program at Winston-Salem State University.

Greg lived most of his life in Winston-Salem until his illness necessitated skilled nursing care, prompting a move to Matthews, NC, to be closer to his devoted daughter, Katy Millner-Cathcart, and her family. He faced life with strength and resilience, triumphing over cancer once in 2009.

He is survived by his ex-wife and friend Vera Millner-Byrd; his loving children Gregg Millner and Katy A. Millner-Cathcart (Travonte) of Charlotte, NC. Gregory's cherished grandchildren include Zyarria Easley (Jeff, III), LaGia Millner, Jackson Cathcart, and Kali Cathcart. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Khiari Easley.

Greg also leaves behind his sister, Mrs. Juanita Millner Easter (John); his nieces: LaTricia London, LaTonya Easter Sawyer, and LaKisha Easter, with whom he shared a particularly close and special bond; as well as five beloved great-nephews. In addition to his family, Greg held a lifelong friendship with Gloria Owens, whose love and support were a constant in his life.

Greg was strong-willed and determined. Though he faced life's challenges, his story is one of redemption, grace, and growth. In his final years, he reconnected with his family, found peace, and brought joy to those around him. His life is a powerful reminder of forgiveness, love, and second chances. A man of wit and quiet strength, Greg was known for his sharp sense of humor and passion for professional wrestling. Despite his introverted nature, he had a unique way of connecting with others, leaving a lasting impact through his resilience, humor, and unwavering spirit. Greg's family and friends will forever remember him as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and veteran who met life's challenges with perseverance and grace.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 20, 2024 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Salisbury National Cemetery on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Rest in peace, Greg. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
