Obituary

Gloria Denise Moore, born September 7, 1957, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering strength that will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and community.

Gloria was the beloved daughter of the late Callie Ree McLeod and the late Jesse Winston. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Beulah Moore ("Me-Mah"); her loving son, Shaun Lamont Moore; two sisters, Yvonne McRae and Jacqueline Rhodes; and one brother, David Winston.

She attended Scotland County High School in Laurinburg, North Carolina, and furthered her education at Winston-Salem State University, completing three years of col-lege. Gloria dedicated over 40 years of faithful service to the Employment Security Commission, where her commitment, diligence, and integrity left a lasting impact.

A woman deeply rooted in faith, Gloria was a devoted member of Zion Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully on the Usher Board and was a proud member of the Senior Choir. She will be greatly missed by her Zion Memorial Missionary Baptist Church family.

To know Gloria was to love her. She never met a stranger and always had a warm, loving smile to share. She was the epitome of strength and perseverance authentic and genuine in all that she did, with a heart of gold. Gloria loved taking pictures, one of her favorite pastimes, capturing memories that will now be treasured forever.

Gloria also had a deep love for music. Her taste spanned generations and genres from Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and The Temptations, to Roger and Zapp, Morris Day and The Time; from Sade and Anita Baker to Hall & Oates and Phil Collins; from Billy Ocean and Gerald Levert to gospel greats such as John P. Kee, The Rance Allen Group, Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker, Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters, Tasha Cobbs, and Tamela Mann. Regardless of what was playing, Gloria would surely lend clapping hands, a bounce, and a step.

Always on the move, Gloria was happiest when helping others, giving her time and love freely wherever and whenever she could. Grounded in her faith, she lived each day with purpose, poise, compassion, and grace.

She found joy in the simple things being outdoors, gardening, and planting flowers. She enjoyed all kinds of sports: football, basketball, softball, baseball, and almost every Olympic event. If there was a game on, she and her beloved husband, Gilbert would surely be tuned in and watching together.

Her life was beautifully summed up in the words: Live, Laugh, Love. Gloria truly lived a full life, filled with laughter and a love so strong and pure. Her presence could light up any room with her radiant smile, joyful laughter, and expressive eyes brought warmth to everyone around her. When she entered a space, her energy was felt by all.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted and loving husband, Gilbert Moore of the home; two daughters, Lagonda (James) McGruder of Durham, NC, whom she adored and doted on, and Mary Jamerson of Sanford, NC; two sons, Gary Snipes and Chevar (Katrina) Snipes, all of Winston-Salem, NC; six grandchildren, Jayden McGruder, who held a special place in her heart, and James (JC) McGruder - "Lil' Man", both of Durham, NC, Jasmine Snipes, CJ Snipes, and Rayshawn Snipes, all of Winston-Salem, NC, and Morgan Jamerson of Sanford, NC; four sisters, Jacqueline (Charles) McArthur of Angier, NC, Victoria Rivers of Eastover, SC, Geneva Moore, and adopted sister Stephanie Benson, both of Winston-Salem, NC; five brothers, Franklin McRae of Laurel Hill, NC, Marcus (LaToya) Winston of Irmo, SC, Ronald Moore of Winston-Salem, NC, Steve (Shari) Moore and Keith (Abby) Moore, both of Cincinnati, OH; her stepmother, Virginia Winston of Eastover, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
