Gladys B.
Sellers
Apr 18, 1943 — Nov 16, 2024
Gladys Elaine Bundridge Sellers was born on April 18, 1943, to Jesse and Juanita Bundridge in Pitts, Georgia. She transitioned to her eternal home, in the presence of her family, on November 16, 2024 in Baltimore, MD.
The second of four children, Gladys' primary years included time in Georgia and Florida, prior to her family settling in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gladys graduated from West Charlotte High School (1961) and worked her way through undergraduate studies at Johnson C. Smith University (1966). Upon graduation she moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she lived her adult life and worked 32 years for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. While working, she completed her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (1979) and served as a dedicated primary school instructor, teaching second grade students her entire career. In 1991 she was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Jefferson Elementary School.
Gladys was a woman of faith attending Tabernacle Baptist Church in Charlotte as a child. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, she joined First Institutional Baptist Church that later became one of the of the foundational institutions of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church (UMMBC). A faithful member of UMMBC, Gladys actively participated in the Senior and Gospel Choirs, the Deaconess Board, Flower and Hospitality Committees. Gladys had a willingness to help and desire to serve others.
A lady of class, Gladys was a lover of all things beautiful. Her creative hobbies included sewing, quilting, ceramics, gardening, canning, and photography. She and her husband, Otis, prided themselves in the beauty of their yard and readily shared the vegetables from their annual garden with neighbors, friends, and family. Gladys loved the outdoors, loved to laugh, and loved smooth jazz, often saying when she heard a song that she liked "I'm going to buy that record!" Her memory lives on in the lives of the students she taught, those she touched through service, and the family she leaves behind.
Gladys is survived and missed by her loving children Theotis Sellers, Ronald Sellers (Stacey), Donald Sellers, and Melanie Wells (Michael). Forever cherished and remembered by her three grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan, and Zachary Sellers. She will also be truly missed by her two nephews, Andy Anderson and Barry Anderson, niece Gala Hopkins, as well as a host of other nieces and nephews from the Sellers, McClendon, Bundridge, and Wells families.
Gladys was preceded in death by her dedicated husband of 45 years, Otis B. Sellers, her father and mother, Jesse and Juanita Bundridge, her beloved sister Annie-Ruth Anderson, and her brothers Marion Bundridge and Maurice Bundridge.
