Fred
Logan
Dec 8, 1925 — Jul 4, 2022
Mr. Fred Logan was born on December 8, 1925 in Laurens County, SC, to the late Mary Sullivan Logan and Jessie Logan. He departed this life on July 4, 2022.
He moved to Winston Salem after serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was very proud of having attended Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received a degree in Tailoring and altered his clothing and others into his 90's. When he was diagnosed with glaucoma, he argued, "how is it that I can see how to thread a needle and not be able to see well enough to drive." He worked in RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co factory #97 Filter for the majority of his career from October 2, 1953 until November 1, 1983 and revered his boss, Romulus Mann, Jr.
His favorite pastimes were shooting pool (billiards) and playing chess & checkers. He loved the music of Marvin Gaye, plus the movies of Clint Eastwood and anything James Bond. One of his proudest possessions he received was a certificate from Goler Memorial AME Zion Church for one year of perfect attendance. He was always well-dressed!
Preceding him in death, one brother, Herbert Lester Logan; one son, Jerry Byers; one devoted aunt, Geneva Torrence; one uncle, Andy Logan; and best friend, Rosetta Harrell.
He leaves to recall fond memories and upbeat expressions, two daughters, Mary Logan Johnson and Nancy Logan Lash both of Winston-Salem; one son, Fred Lester Logan (Roslyn) of Bridgeport, CT; daughter-in-law, Elaine Byers of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Gary Lash, Logan Renee Lash, Jordan Lash, Erika Wooten, Eric Johnson, Xavian Gerrod Byers; thirteen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; and two God-daughters, Bessie Massey and Cornell Watlington.
The family acknowledges with great appreciation the long-term care and patience of former Novant physicians, Dr. Bashrai and Dr. Zekan and the injection lab staff. Also, the most recent care and kindness of Dr. Murphy, Dr. An and Dr. Copeland.
Public viewing for Mr. Logan will be Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 1:00 pm- 6:00 pm at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be 12 pm Monday, July 11, 2022 at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Interment at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
