Mrs. Esther Mae Thacker Butler, 87, was born in Winston-Salem, NC on March 15, 1932 to the late Willie Ross Thacker and Mattie Miller Thacker. She peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 10, 2020.

Educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, she was a graduate of Atkins High School. Mrs. Butler was a lifelong resident of the city and lived in the Morningside Manor Community for 51 years. She was a faithful member of the Emmanuel Apostolic Church until her health declined. She loved the Lord and was a woman of faith who trusted God. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23.

Mrs. Butler was the matriarch of her family, their Queen E and Star. She was a homemaker and caregiver by nature and touched many lives through her unselfish acts of kindness and love. That love and kindness went beyond her immediate family. She was a Mother to many. She loved to color, knit, cook and enjoyed life by giving of herself.

She was married to Isaac M. Butler, Jr., who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Lois H. Thacker; two sons, Elbert Thacker, Sr. and Michael Ronald Thacker; her son-in-law, Fred Wilson and great grandson, Jalen Yates.

Mrs. Butler was precious and loved by many in her community, church family, a jewel that was full of life. She leaves to celebrate her "legacy" and heritage of family, two sons: Anthony C. Thacker and Gregory M. Butler, Sr.; one daughter, Carol Wilson; fourteen grand-children; seventeen great grandchildren; special aunt, Gloria Fulton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Clark S. Brown & Sons Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service.
