Obituary

Ms. Ernestine Lewis Lane was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Harry and Eunice Lewis and was welcomed into the home of James and Rachel Lewis, who raised her as their loving daughter. On November 20, 2023, at Trellis Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, surrounded by family, loved ones and friends, she gained her wings and was granted entrance to God's Heavenly Kingdom.

Ernestine graduated from Atkins High School in 1953. She was employed at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 37 ½ years, and was then blessed to retire in great health.

She was a faithful member of Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Usher Board and participated in several ministries until her health declined. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Ebonites Bowling Club, where she enjoyed traveling and competing in bowling tournaments throughout the southeast and other regions.

As a loving, concerned and committed mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother, we give thanks to God for allowing us to have her in our lives to share, care and grow together as a strong family that united as one.

Survived by those who will forever cherish her legacy are her children: Anthony (Margaret) Lewis (Jerome Jr. and Maya); Debra Lane (Aisha and Antonio); Derek (Melody) Lane, (Mylika and Myriah); Sherryl Bohannon (Shara, Dewayne Sr. and TJ); Charles Lane (Ne'Shaun and Dennis); Audrey Lane (Dwight, Sr.), (Maya and Chimere) (Dwight Jr. and Deraymes); three sisters, Audrey Lee Hobbs, Gloria Ingram, and Peggy Lee Wilson (Rosebud); 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren; special nieces, Vicky Lindsay, Bobbietta Payne and Hermonie Erwing.

There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, December 1, 2023 at Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 132 North Glenn Avenue, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105.
