Edwin Lawrence Patterson Jr. was born August 15, 1948 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The only son of the late Edwin and Ruth Mills Patterson Sr.. He transitioned to his eternal rest on June 19, 2024 after an extended illness.

Ed was educated in the Forsyth County schools system. After attending Virginia State University, he joined the Army in 1967 and served during the Vietnam War. After completing his tour in 1969, Ed continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1973. Upon returning to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he enrolled in Forsyth Technical Community College. He was soon hired by Westinghouse, where he spent the entirety of his career.

"Sonny", as he was affectionately known to his family, always had a good story to tell. He had a unique way of expressing himself and often shared his thoughtful - and humorous - perspectives. His witty commentary and sharp sense of humor brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.

Ed was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Ida Patterson-Johnson.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his two nieces, Patricia Johnson-Wiggins (Cedric Sr.) and Denise Johnson White (William); two great-nephews; one great-niece; and a host cousins, other relatives and friends.
