Obituary

Doris Jane McKay Jinks departed from this world peacefully on August 7, 2019 and now rests in the arms of her Savior. She was born on April 17, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia and is preceded in death by her parents, Nelson McKay and Dorothy Norwood McKay. She was a 1962 graduate of L. J. Price High School and attended three years at Clark Atlanta University.

While attending Clark University, Doris met her husband, Ronald Jinks, who was attending nearby Morehouse College. With her quiet example, she led him to the Lord while they were dating. They were married on January 8, 1966 and spent many of their years together traveling across the country and around the world. Of the 32 countries they visited, some of her favorite places were Paris, France, London, England, a Baltic Sea cruise that took them to Russia, and Oslo, Norway. They also lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sacramento, California, Toronto, Ontario, Montreal, Quebec, here and Dallas, Texas before retiring to Winston Salem, North Carolina.

As a wife and mother, she took pleasure in caring for her family. Doris was an excellent cook and homemaker until her children reached their teen years, and sit-down family dinners were the standard every evening. When her children became more independent, she then focused her attention on becoming a proficient businesswoman; starting and managing Canadian Maid Services – a successful residential and commercial cleaning service – for 15 years.

Doris' life in Christ began at an early age at Bible Way Ministries International. In her adult years she was a member for over 30 years at The Life Church inDallas, TX, and most recently at the Central Triad Church in High Point, NC. Doris was an exceptional singer and loved to glorify God in song. Over the years she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and opened her home many times to host church members. Doris loved to host, and you could feel her love for people most often during those times.

Her favorite thing was to be with family, and especially her grandchildren. She expressed pride in each of their accomplishments and was not shy about giving them advice regarding life and how they should strive to do their best. Her primary hobby was crocheting, which she spent hours of her time doing; always planning the next item to be made for a family member when she had barely started the project she was working on. She was involved with a crochet group at church – following her own advice to do her best.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Ronald Jinks; Children – Rhonda Green, Garland, TX, Nicole Hall (Winston), Winston Salem, NC; Sister – Renita Gray (Harold), Atlanta, GA; Brother – Nathanial Gray (Belinda), Atlanta, GA;Grandchildren – Stephanie Green, Camille Green, Nathaniel Green, Garland, TX, Ethan Hall, Ryan Hall, Winston Salem, NC. In addition, Doris leaves behind a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
