Curtis Leon
Pelzer
Jun 14, 1945 — Jan 25, 2026
Curtis Leon Pelzer was born on June 14, 1945, to Collie Pelzer (deceased) and Mozella McLean (deceased) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Curtis attended Akins High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He later became a dedicated employee who worked as a machine operator at RJ Reynolds Tobacco and retired from the company after 33 years of service. A hard worker with an entrepreneurial spirit, he and his wife, Mary Pelzer, had their own janitorial business in his younger years.
Curtis enjoyed different sports, but his passion was baseball, with his favorite team being the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also took pride in landscaping, planting, and detailing his vehicles. Curtis, always skilled and handy, enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his wife as well as their two daughters, Angela and Felisha.
Not only did Curtis enjoy keeping things tidy inside and outside of the home, he also took great pride in his appearance. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Having always been very supportive of his family's accomplishments, he would consistently offer words of encouragement and share how proud he was of their successes.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mozella McLean, and father, Collie Pelzer; brother, Emmanuel Pelzer; and sister, Doris E. Townsend. Curtis Pelzer departed this life peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Pelzer, of Winston-Salem, NC; two daughters, Angela Pelzer-Reid and Felisha Pelzer Sloan; four granddaughters, Chantae Wright, Cortnie Smith, Maya Sloan, and Cassidy Sloan; three great grandchildren, Anaiah Wright, Zah'mir Smith, and Demari Brown; one sister, Shirley Cheeks; one brother, Donald Ray Pelzer; one uncle, John Stone; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
