Mr. Clyde Henry Hayes, Sr., 90, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2017, following an extended period of illness. He was born to the late John H. Hayes and Juanita Harris Hayes in Winston-Salem, NC on October 28, 1926. His brother, Honorable Judge Roland Hayes, Sr. , sister Jacqueline Hayes Harris, and son, Clyde Hayes, Jr., preceded him in death. Mr. Hayes graduated from Atkins High School. He attended Winston-Salem State University and gave honorable service for his country in the US Air Force. He retired after a long career from the City of Winston-Salem. He was a life-long member of The Greater Church, formerly Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Evolia Gaither Hayes; sister, Velma Hayes Friende, brother-in-law, Robert Harris, sister-in-law, Barbara S. Hayes, sons: Phillip DeLeon Hayes, Sr. and Gregory W. Hayes; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several extended family members and loyal friends. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at The Greater Church Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
