Brenda Spease
Hairston
Jun 17, 1950 — Mar 21, 2023
Before sunrise on the morning of March 21, 2023, our beloved mother, Ms. Brenda "Brent" Dianne Spease Hairston, passed away at the age of 72. She was born to the late Stanley Dunham and Essie McJones Spease, on June 17, 1950, in Winston-Salem, NC.
"Brent" attended the local schools and was a member of the Atkins High School Class of 1968.
She married young and reared four beautiful children. She spread her love around to everyone she encountered. "Brent" knew how to light up a room. There was never a dull moment when you were in her presence. She spent her younger years employed in the service industry. "Brent" worked for the City of Winston-Salem Parks and Recreation Department and at Hanes Brand Corporation.
"Brent" leaves to cherish her four beautiful children: Stangerlena (Dave) Wilser, of Clayton, NC, Angaline Hairston, of Winston-Salem, NC, Terry (Teresa) Hairston II, of Kernersville, NC, and N'Kenya Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC; mother figure, Mary Shuler; and sister, Lindy Harris.
She absolutely adored being a "Grand-Mother" and wore the title as a badge of honor for her loving grandchildren: Deion Mayhew, Brenttana Hairston, Lance and Joshua Latta, Terry IV, Tyren, and Trinity Hairston; two great-grandsons: Kian Kelleher and Jabari Mayhew; two special cousins, Valerie Wilson and Waltranette Talbert; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
"Brent" was preceded in death by both of her parents; grandson Terry Hairston III; and special friends, Herman L. Wilson and Tom Fulton Jr.
With a wonderful sense of humor, she never took life too seriously. She was a diehard fan of Marvin Gaye and loved old school R&B. "Brent" knew her way around the kitchen and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She was immensely proud of her family, and leaves nothing but beautiful memories.
