Obituary

Beverly Fredericka Holmes Douglas was born to Claudette Holmes on April 2, 1950. She was an only child and grew up in the city of Philadelphia, PA. She enjoyed a full, bountiful life through her love for her children, grandchildren, and friends. She departed this realm peacefully on July 18, 2025, with her children and grandchildren by her side.

She received her education in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1968. She enrolled in Ellen Cushing Junior College and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in early childhood education at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. After graduation, she worked as an educator in the Wake County School System in Raleigh, NC, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System in Winston-Salem, NC. She completed her career as an educator in Atlanta, GA.

Beverly met Gerald C. Douglas at Shaw University. They enjoyed one another immensely and told many stories of how much fun they had in college hanging with friends and throwing parties - oftentimes talking about how the curtains would be on the floor after every party they threw. They were married in 1974 and from this union two children were born: Keisha Genenne and Jerrold Avante. Together they shared 15 years of marriage until Gerald's passing in 1989.

She had a thirst for education and was a natural nurturer. She often brought students home for the weekend early in her career.

Beverly served as an Usher on the Usher Board at Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Zion church and she was also a member of the Senior Choir demonstrating her dedication to service and her love for her church family.

Her Story Continues Her children's friends woul d often beg her to make her famous lemon pound cake. Many times, they would "hope" that the cake fell because it would taste like cheesecake brownies. This is a very fond memory amongst her children and their friends even to this day.

Another one of her passions was dancing. Hanging out with her daughter in Atlanta, GA, they found a line dancing group that would meet every Wednesday. They would go and learn line dances and have a great time.

She also loved having cookouts at her children's homes, going to concerts, and trying new foods at restaurants. Her favorite passion was, of course, her grandchildren! She loved her children, but she adored her grandchildren. She spent most of her free time talking about traveling with and attending her grandchildren's school events and sports games.

Beverly will be missed by many. She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life and memory: daughter Keisha Cooper of Atlanta, GA; son Jerrold Douglas (Nikisha) of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren: Aaliyah Olton of Jacksonville, NC, Jhustiz Douglas of Atlanta, GA, Christopher J. Cooper II of Atlanta, GA (a sophomore at Oberlin College), Blake Cooper of Atlanta, GA (a sophomore at The Lovett School), Zoe Douglas of Atlanta, GA (4th grade at Whitefield Academy) and a host of family and friends.

The family would also like to acknowledge and give thanks to the staff at Wellstar Health System in Atlanta, GA.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 17, 2025 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.
