Tanner
May 31, 1936 — Feb 10, 2022
Mrs. Bernice Bingham Tanner was born to the late Horace and Cora Kearns Bingham on May 31, 1936 in Lewisville, North Carolina. On February 10, 2022, she completed her last earthly assignment, leaving a legacy for others to cherish.
She attended the local public schools and was a 1954 graduate of Carver High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She furthered her education and graduated in 1958 from Winston-Salem Teacher's College (now Winston-Salem State University) in 1958. Her teaching career in the Yadkin County School System at East Bend Elementary School enriched lives of those she touched, even beyond the years of her official retirement.
At Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church she sang with the choir and shared her passion for helping others with her involvement in many activities of the Missionary Board. An avid bowler, she also enjoyed crocheting and adventures in dining out with her daughter and other family members.
Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by her husband James H. Tanner, her parents, and a devoted cousin, Alma Jones.
Those who remain to mourn her passing but possess fond memories of her include; two children, James B. (Doris) Tanner and Batina T. (Derrick) Hill; grandchildren, Adrian Lindsey and Latina Tanner, (Bee); brother-in-law, Ernest Tanner; sister-in-law, Ernestine Tanner Marshall; devoted cousins, Jonta Jones, April Patterson, Shapail Patterson, and their children; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins from the Marshall family; devoted goddaughter, Felecia Beard; Derrick Couthen, (who was like a son); dedicated friends, Diane Winphie (more like a sister) and Ramona Banner; along with many other loving friends.
