Obituary

On September 1, 1940, the creator picked a flower and called the roll. "Alice" come forth and the beautiful flower descended into the Earth. On January 13, 2022, an angel appeared, gently touched the beautiful flower and said: "Alice, come with me I'll guide you safely back home." And just like that the flower ascended back to her heavenly home.

Born unto Katie and Joe Peoples the youngest of eight, Alice was the "baby". Alice was a graduate of Atkins High School and Star Stenographic School of Business in Winston-Salem, NC. In her early career, Alice was employed by Gravely, Inc. She was a former member of St. Mark Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

Being the mother of three children whom she loved intensely, was one of her greatest life accomplishments. Alice was blessed with many gifts in life, but the greatest was the love she adorned on her family and her friends.

Alice loved to laugh and be with family, that's what brought her joy. As her voice began to soften more and her footsteps began to get lighter, she remained in good spirit and continued to tell you what she wanted, when she wanted it, and how she wanted it. If you knew Alice, you would have to get up early to match wits with her. Alice loved a good hymn, and we know she is now singing in the heavenly Hymn Choir. Alice yearned to be with her siblings in her final days and now her desires have been fulfilled. Loved by all of us, she will forever be in our hearts.

Waiting for her in heaven are her parents: Joe and Katie; siblings: Vernice Peoples, Earnest Peoples, Boston Peoples, Willie Peoples, Thomas Peoples, Josephine Pompey, and Etheleen Duckett.

Left to carry on her legacy and love are her daughters: Vera Millner (Lachan), and Alicia Sheppard; her son, Tommie Hairston; grandchildren: Gregg Millner, Katy Millner Cathcart (Travonte), Kearra Sheppard, Tomalex Hairston, and Jada McKeller; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 awaiting great grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

There will be a public viewing for Ms. Scott Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Service will be private.
